Every year during the summer there are a number of festivals and cultural events, the most well-known worldwide being the Pablo Casals Chamber Music Festival. Thanks to the local associations and clubs (approx 100) Prades has the advantage of having a variety of entertainments throughout the year for the pleasure of the locals and the visitors alike. Journées Romanes (Romanesque Days) 9th to 16th July 2008

Pablo Casals Chamber Music Festival 26th July to 13th August 2008

Created in 1950, the Festival welcomes every year the most eminent international artists and famous orchestras. The Prades Academy of Chamber Music gives master classes to aspiring young musicians from all over the world, who come to learn from the world’s masters.
Winter concerts in January take place in Paris at the Champs Elysée Theatre.

This Festival, organised every 2 years (odd years) at the beginning of October,
offers the visitor: films, exhibitions, carnival-like processions, conferences, and debates all based on insects and nature.

Fete de la St Jean 23rd June

Bundles of vine twigs are taken to the peak of Mount Canigou to form a large bonfire, the fire is lit and becomes a beacon which can be seen from all over the Conflent. In the early hours of 24th runners carrying the flame from the fire relay each other to bring the flame down to the villages which are en route to Perpignan so that they will have the flame to light their fires for the “Focs de la sant Joan”. That same evening the flame will be used to light the village fires, the signal for the festivities to begin.

Fête sans Frontières

This event takes place in May and for one day brings together all the different nationalities, so that they can discover the customs, traditions, and culinary delights that each country has to offer.
